I started this file today with the intention of sketching out some ideas for a cover. It was only supposed to be an idea - not a full fledged book cover.
But after two hours, it was clear I wanted to keep working on it.
And then after five hours, I had the first semi-finished idea and thought of sharing it here as a “possible” cover. I knew it wasn’t polished enough to be done, but I thought it could help me announce that I’m working on something and it’s serious.
I think I took like 30 minutes break, but couldn’t stop thinking about it.
So I opened the file again and kept working.
And then I did that again.
And then I smiled. Even though my life around me sucks (going downstairs to eat is like playing a game of roulette, and I “lost” again today)…I feel really proud of myself for creating this.
I started with a blank canvas…and literally just created. And it didn’t look like a bunch of blobs.
Now I just need to finish writing the book.
It’s going to be the first novella (hopefully it stays that size) in a 5 part novella series, and it's the backstory/lore for my other novel. It follows the immortal, Zinnia-thama, as she finally gets the chance to explore the worlds outside her own. But things aren’t as simple as she thought, and a lot more than adventure is waiting for her along the way.
That’s not the official blurb, but…it gives a (vague) overview of what the series is about!
It’s got dragons, and magic, and found family, and betrayal, and loss, and lots of different species, and it also mentions Excalibur and some other famous tools. But…I don’t think there’s going to be much romance, if any at all.
Below is the final version of the cover. It might change again as I get closer to finishing things, but…I think I like it. It’ll probably stay this way.
So uhm, surprise book cover reveal? I just couldn’t keep it a secret, and building up interest has never worked for me.
I’M EXCITED. What do you think?
PS - yes, I drew everything in this picture (except the text/text effects). I didn’t know I was going to keep going, and my computer doesn’t like large screen record files anyways, so that’s why I didn’t screen record. The white strands at the bottom is Zinnia’s hair. There’s a reason that only her hair made the cover!
