Okay okay…I didn’t actually record the actual edit process. But…I opened this program just to experiment, today (not thinking I was going to post anything). I’ve been learning more skills, which include…revisiting old freeware that I used to use.
And then I really liked the outcome, so I made this quick recap video.
This freeware is called RawTherapee (yes, the spelling is like that). It’s AMAZING, even if you’re working with JPG files instead of raw files (I’ve used it for both and have been blown away). It’s actually really comparable to Lightroom from all of the videos I’ve been watching. Some of the tools aren’t as intuitive/easy to find, but…it seems to all be there.
Anyways.
This edit experiment was to use some of the things I learned to revamp some old photos in hopes of upgrading my portfolio to be more professional. This video shows a click through of the edit process, since RawTherapee keeps a record of…pretty much every step.
Basically I played with the highlights/shadows (but only certain ranges), and then added in some LAB saturation/luminance, but then I wasn’t happy with the colors. So I played with noise/defringe (there was some pink fringe)/haze, and then I went to the actual color tab and added a mask.
What do you think? Can you figure out the story I’m trying to tell with this edit?
