I made a huge mistake in my first draft of Phoenix Staff, and discovered it yesterday during my developmental edit.

Basically it meant that I had to re-organize/re-write most of the third act/ending. Yay for forgetting story structure and going on vibes…but I guess it’s another lesson learned, and this time I didn’t make the mistake of hitting publish and watching it flop, first (yup - I’ve done that before).

Anyways. This drawing happened because I was procrastinating on making those (massive) edits. I asked myself what I really wanted to do at that moment in time, which was draw more settings from the book, and then I let myself do it. Progress.

This artwork depicts the throne room at 5pm, when the sun is in just the right spot. Zinnia’s mother - the one who uses this room the most - is one of the 9 ancients that rule her world, and they’re all depicted in the abstract stained glass window.

It took about 2 hours total for me to draw this in the freeware called Krita.

I went back to writing not long after, too, and most of the issues are fixed. When I’m done those…it’ll be back to more edits, to make sure I didn’t forget something.

There isn’t a release date yet.
